THE NATURE AND ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Scripture - Romans 8 : 14; Isa 11 : 2; Luke 1 : 35; zech 4 : 10 

Introduction

Like the father and the Son, the Holy spirit is a distinct person of the God head. As a divine person, the Holy spirit is eternal,  ever present, Almighty, perfect, wise, perfectly just and perfectly good. As the Father is the creator and the Son is the saviour and redeemer, the Holy spirit is the sanctified who frees us and lead us to new lives. Holy spirit teaches, encourage, comforts,  pleads for us and leads us into all truth

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is a full and distinct person  in the Godhead. He lived in Jesus and empowered  him for ministry. After Jesus returned  to heaven , he sent the Holy spirit to make a permanent home in our hearts. The Holy spirit is now present in the church and in individual christians.  He has numerous task to perform which include the following :

a. Inspiring  the prophet and apostles to put God's work into writing, and confirming in humans hearts that God actually  speaks in the writing of the authors.

b. The Holy spirit leads us to spiritual rebirth .

c. The Holy spirit brings Christ's presence to us.

d. The Holy spirit keeps us in touch with God.

e. The Holy spirit gives  us power to witness and to live the christain    life.

f. The Holy spirit gives us spiritual gifts.

THE NATURE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

b. The Holy spirit is united with the Father and the Son matt 28 : 19

c. The Holy Spirit  has the characteristics of God

d. He is Eternal Heb 9 : 14

e. He is omnipresent ps 139 : 7 - 10

f. He is omnipotent Acts 1 : 8

g. He is omniscient 1 Cor 2 : 10 - 11

h. He raised christ form the dead

I. He performs miracles matt 12 : 28

j. He is involved in creation Gen 1 : 2

k.  He gives spiritual life to us

THE ROLE OF HOLY SPIRIT IN THE BELIVERS LIFE

a. He teaches belivers John 14 : 26

b. He encourages belivers  Acts 9 : 31

c.He council belivers John 14 : 16

d. He convicts people of sin John 16 : 8

e. He prays for belivers Rom 8 : 27

f. He guides God's people Ish 63 : 13

g. He instruct God's people Neh 9 : 20

h. He leads God's people in the right way ps 143 : 10

I. He inspires God's people to do the right thing ps 5 : 10 - 12

j. He admonishes God's people Neh 9 : 20

k. He lives among God's people John 14 : 16 - 17

l. He gives God's people power acts 1 : 8

m. He reveals God's secrets to us 1 Cor 10 : 10 - 16

n. He keeps us in touch with with God Rom 8 : 5 - 9

o. He controls us Rom 8 : 5 - 9

p. He makes to live the right christain life Rom 8  : 5 - 9

q. He makes us holy Rom 15 : 16

r. He gives us new life John 14 : 16 - 18

SYMBOLS OF HOLY SPIRIT 

The various ways in which the Holy spirit demonstrate His power an authority in the affairs of men are symbolizesd in different forms :

1. Dove matt 3 : 16

2. Water. zech 14 : 8

3. Oil. 1sam 16 : 13

4.wind. John 3 : 8

5. Fire. acts 2 : 3 etc

CONCLUSION

when the Holy Spirit  comes to live in us He gives each of us gifts in manifolds dimension. At Pentecost, the disciples were filled with the spirit. The filling of the Holy Spirit  qualifies belivers and equip them for service and  for living a joy-filled and victorious life in Christ Jesus.

Life without the Holy Spirit is worthless.
